US Open bosses tweak schedule

DANNY Lee can have a relaxing evening after all after US Open officials confirmed yesterday that his half of the field will start the second round of the rain-hit championship today.
With the tournament backed up after Thursday’s rains, the New Zealander had a provisional second-round tee time of 8:43pm at Oakmont, Pennsylvania.
“That’s past my dinner time,” Lee said after wrapping up a 1-under par first round of 69 yesterday morning that left him three shots behind clubhouse leader Andrew Landry of the United States.
Under the revised schedule announced yesterday, approximately half the field will aim to complete the first and second rounds by nightfall. That will mean a quick turnaround for the likes of world No. 1 Jason Day of Australia and five-time major winner Phil Mickelson, who began the first round yesterday morning and will be among those starting the second after 2:30 in the afternoon.
The remainder of the field won’t start the second round until tomorrow morning, with round three slated to start shortly after the halfway cut is made.
