Westwood in the hunt; Tiger opens with 68

IN his first tournament as the world's No. 1 player, Lee Westwood looked the part at the HSBC Champions.

Westwood opened with a 6-under 66 at Sheshan International to put his name atop the leaderboard today as the first round was winding down. The Englishman is playing for only the third time in three months.

Tiger Woods, who lost the No. 1 ranking for the first time in more than five years, kept pace with a 68. Woods opened with bogey, made a stunning save on the 15th with a 4-iron out of a cluster of bushes, then made three straight birdies early on the back nine.

Francesco Molinari was at 7 under with three holes to play.

PGA champion Martin Kaymer had a 72, while defending champion Phil Mickelson shot a 69.
