Zhang sets early pace at new Jiangsu tournament

CHINA’S Zhang Jienalin fired a 3-under-par 69 yesterday to take the first-round lead at the Zhangjiagang Shuangshan Challenge, a new China LPGA Tour event in Jiangsu Province.

Thailand’s Ploychompoo Wirairungrueng and Swiss Anais Maggetti were one shot off the pace following rounds of 70. China’s Pan Yanhong was among a group of six player who were equal fourth after shooting matching 71s at the Shuangshan Golf Course on Zhangjiagang Island. The 500,000 yuan (US$US$76,000) event was created to give players one more opportunity to earn world ranking points ahead of the Rio Olympic Games, where golf is making a comeback after 1904.
