Chen still 'Lord of the Rings'
OLYMPIC champion Chen Yibing of China proved he really is "Lord of the Rings" with his fourth title on the still rings, after scoring an outstanding 15.800 points yesterday to claim China's second gold medal at the world championships in Tokyo.
Arthur Nabarrete Zanetti of Brazil and Koji Yamamuro of Japan, with 15.600 points and 15.500 points, were second and third respectively.
Chen pumped his fists after staging a clean and impressive performance. He waved to the audience in the stadium and kissed the supporting pole before leaving the apparatus.
China had earlier won the men's overall title and added a silver and bronze medal to its tally yesterday.
Zou Kai was narrowly beaten in the men's floor event by all-round champion and home favorite Kohei Uchimura.
Uchimura, 22, collected an adjusted score of 15.633 points, edging out Olympic champion Zou by 0.133 points. Third place was shared by Diego Hypolito of Brazil and Alexander Shatilov of Israel.
Huang Qiushuang took the bronze in the women's uneven bars, which was won by Victoria Komova of Russia.
Huang scored 14.833 points, with 16-year-old Komova staging a clean and impressive performance to collect 15.500 points, edging compatriot Tatiana Nabieva by 0.500 points.
Earlier, McKayla Maroney gave the Americans a sweep of the first three gold medals by winning the vault title.
The US women had won the first two gold medals awarded: the team title and Jordyn Wieber in the all-round. Maroney made it a clean sweep, and gave the United States its third straight vault title after Kayla Williams and Alicia Sacramone.
The American finished with 15.3 points, ahead of Oksana Chusovitina of Germany. Thi Ha Thanh Phan of Vietnam won the bronze.
