Chinese teen Li claims first WCup balance beam title
Chinese teenager Li Qi collected her first World Cup championship on the balance beam in Doha, Qatar.
With the highest difficulty score at 6.0 points, Li put on a clean performance to hit a total of 14.333 points on Saturday night. Belgian world champion Nina Derwael took silver at 13.633 with a far lower difficult score at 5.2. French gymnast Marine Boyer was third at 13.333. “I was so nervous that I couldn’t move on the beam at Baku (Azerbaijan). I was injured and had to leave the field for a long time,” said the 17-year-old Li, who ranked fifth one week ago at the Baku World Cup on the same apparatus. Zou Jingyuan, a promising star for Tokyo 2020, snatched the gold medal on the parallel bars with clear point advantage over Russian Vladislav Poliashov.
