Blackhawks enjoy revenge romp with big Canucks win

THE Chicago Blackhawks pounded Vancouver 5-1 on Wednesday to earn their fourth consecutive win and mete out some revenge for a lopsided defeat to the Canucks earlier this month.
The NHL-leading Blackhawks (12-4-3) fell 0-1 behind to Jannik Hansen's goal early in the second period but were unstoppable once they switched through the gears to score five times without reply.
Chicago, which had been blown out 6-2 by the Canucks (9-9-1) on November 6, will enjoy the sweet taste of victory over the team that also ended its 2010-11 campaign in a thrilling seven-game playoff series last April.
"We're just happy to pay them back a little bit for what they did to us in our own barn," Blackhawks center Jonathan Toews told reporters.
After falling behind, Chicago got back on level terms through Andrew Burnette's goal before Patrick Kane gave the Blackhawks a 2-1 lead midway through the period.
Toews, Patrick Sharp and Steve Montador scored in the third period to ice the win, while goaltender Corey Crawford made 28 saves in the victory.
Cory Schneider, playing in net for injured Vancouver goaltender Roberto Luongo, stopped 22 shots in the loss.
Even while playing without injured defensemen Brent Seabrook and Dave Bolland, Chicago played a largely error-free game and denied the Canucks any powerplay opportunities.
"It's huge for us, especially against a team like that," said Kane, who added an assist.
"We wanted to play disciplined and we did that and capitalized on our powerplays too. So overall, (it was) a good night for special teams."
In Buffalo, Patrik Elias had a goal and assist, Martin Brodeur made 29 saves, and Ilya Kovalchuk scored in his return from a groin injury in the New Jersey Devils' 5-3 win over the Sabres.
Playing in his fourth game since a shoulder injury forced him to miss six, Brodeur's best save came with 6 minutes left in the second period when he snagged Jason Pominville's shot from point-blank range with his glove.
Brodeur has allowed 10 goals since his return.
Zach Parise, Mark Fayne, and David Clarkson also scored for the Devils (9-7-1), who won for the second time in three games. New Jersey lost 3-4 at Boston on Tuesday.
Tyler Myers scored twice after a one-game benching, Jordan Leopold added a goal, and Jhonas Enroth allowed five goals on 19 shots.
Elsewhere, it was: Canadiens 4, Hurricanes 0; and Kings 2, Ducks 1, SO.
