Blues keep hopes alive


THE St. Louis Blues moved to within one point of the final playoff spot in the torrid Western Conference race with a 4-2 home win over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday.

The win gives the Blues 79 points as they remain in a five-team logjam in the playoff battle, with the teams seventh through 11th in the Conference standings separated by just two points.

David Perron scored a powerplay goal early in the third period for the winner and added an assist. T.J. Oshie also had a goal for the Blues, 8-2-1 in their last 11 games.

Elsewhere in the National Hockey League, it was: Blue Jackets 5, Flames 0; Panthers 4, Flyers 2; Thrashers 5, Rangers 4 (in a shootout); Canadiens 3, Lightning 2 (in overtime); Predators 3, Sharks 2; Kings 1, Stars 0 (in SO); and Coyotes 3, Oilers 2.
