Bruins dismantle hapless Flames

THE Boston Bruins routed the Calgary Flames 9-0 on Thursday in Boston to maintain a relentless run of form that has taken them to the top of the Northeast division and within a point of the Eastern Conference lead.

The defending Stanley Cup champions, who endured a nightmare start to the season and slid to last place in the conference in November, have won nine of their last 10 games and surged to the top of their division.

The Flames are moving in the opposite direction and wrapped up a seven-game road trip with five consecutive losses.

Twelve Bruins players registered a point in the rout, while the top line of Tyler Seguin, Patrice Bergeron and Benoit Pouliot, playing in place of the ill Brad Marchand, led the attack with three goals and six assists.

"It was awesome," Pouliot said, adding that his line mates were great to play with.

"It feels like they're always at the right spot at the right time.

"So my job is just to fill in and try to help them out as much as I can and try to do what Marchy (Marchand) does, and things worked out."

Nathan Horton scored twice and Milan Lucic, Daniel Paille, Chris Kelly and David Krejci also found the net.

Boston netminder Tuukka Rask made 25 saves for his third shutout of the season.

In other games, it was: Flyers 5, Blackhawks 4; Maple Leafs 4, Jets 0; Rangers 3, Panthers 2, OT; Senators 4, Lightning 1; Blues 4, Oilers 3; Stars 4, Predators 1; Sharks 2, Blue Jackets 1; and Kings 1, Coyotes 0, OT.

In Philadelphia, the Flyers blew a two-goal lead before James van Riemsdyk scored his second of the game with less than a minute left to beat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-4 in a cliff-hanger.

"It's exciting to contribute," Van Riemsdyk said. "Some things, some bounces haven't necessarily gone my way for most of the year. It feels good to contribute and help the team win."

In New York, Marian Gaborik scored 3:29 into overtime for New York, which outlasted Florida to move to the top of the NHL standings with its eighth win in nine games.
