Bruins top Red Wings 4-1 to level series

TWO powerplay goals and stingy penalty killing ended the Boston Bruins’ offensive drought and leveled their playoff series against the Red Wings.

Reilly Smith and Zdeno Chara scored with a man advantage, Detroit got just one shot on goal on its four power plays and Boston won 4-1 in Game 2 on Sunday.

Smith scored his first career playoff goal 10:35 into the game, about three minutes after Justin Florek’s goal gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead on their first shot at 7:28. Luke Glendening cut the lead to 2-1 at 13:20 of the second period before Milan Lucic scored late in the second and Chara added his power-play goal early in the third.

The Philadelphia Flyers rallied to beat the New York Rangers 4-2 to level their playoff series, with Luke Schenn scoring the go-ahead goal in the second period and backup Ray Emery making 31 saves.

The Canadiens moved within one victory of advancing to the second round with a 3-2 win over Tampa Bay which gave them a 3-0 series lead.

Rene Bourque scored 11 seconds into the game and Brendan Gallagher also scored for Montreal. Ondrej Palat and Matthew Carle scored for Tampa Bay before Tomas Plekanec sealed the win for the Canadiens.
