Canucks stretch home win run
MASON Raymond scored the winning goal in overtime as the Vancouver Canucks had the final say in a see-saw 4-3 win over the struggling Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday.
Colorado center Matt Duchene forced the extra session after scoring with 1:33 remaining in regulation, but Raymond beat goaltender Peter Budaj just 28 seconds into overtime on a shot that went in off a defenders stick.
"It wasn't the prettiest, but we'll take it," Raymond told reporters. "I just gave it a good whack toward the front and it went between (Budaj's legs and in)."
The Avs (4-4-1) were condemned to a third successive defeat while the Canucks (4-3-2) have won four straight games at home, where they boast a 4-0-1 record.
Vancouver got 36 saves from Roberto Luongo as the home team rallied from an early deficit to take a 3-2 advantage when Ryan Kesler found the net in the second period and Peter Schaefer in the third.
Colorado had started well and took the lead on David Jones' goal 4:28 into the game, before Daniel Winnik regained the advantage after Jeff Tambellini had tied the scores.
In the win, Daniel Sedin had an assist to extend his point streak to nine games, while Henrik Sedin collected his team-leading 11th assist of the season.
Budaj made 27 saves for the Avalanche and played without a backup after regular starter Craig Anderson injured his knee during the pregame warm-up. He will be sent home for further evaluation.
In Dallas, Bobby Ryan scored twice as the Anaheim Ducks beat the Dallas Stars 5-2.
Jonas Hiller made 35 saves for Anaheim, while Teemu Selanne scored his 611th NHL goal, breaking a tie with Bobby Hull to assume sole possession of 15th place on the all-time list.
Selanne also had an assist to give him 801 points with the Ducks. Corey Perry also scored, and enforcer George Parros notched a rare goal as Anaheim wrapped up a 2-2 road trip.
Loui Eriksson and Brian Sutherby scored for the Stars, who have managed only two goals in two games.
Knocking over
In Toronto, the hosts beat Florida 3-1, with enforcer Colton Orr scoring the winning goal after knocking over goalie Scott Clemmensen.
The teams were locked in a tight-checking game until Orr netted the decisive goal with 8:58 left. After slamming into Clemmensen, Orr tipped a shot from linemate Tim Brent into the wide open net.
Clemmensen argued his case with the referee to no avail. Tyler Bozak and Phil Kessel also scored for the Maple Leafs.
Dennis Wideman had the sole goal for Florida.
In Philadelphia, the home team survived a third-period flurry to beat Buffalo 6-3.
Jeff Carter scored a goal and had two assists, while Danny Briere and Claude Giroux each added a goal and an assist for Philadelphia.
Nikolay Zherdev, Darroll Powe and Andreas Nodl also scored for the Flyers.
Buffalo's Thomas Vanek scored in the first period, and Tyler Myers and Steve Montador added goals in the third for the Sabres.
In Calgary, the hosts made it five wins in six games by beating Edmonton 5-4 in a shootout.
Brendan Morrison scored two goals and Alex Tanguay netted the shootout winner for Calgary.
The Flames looked to be in control when they built a 4-1 late in the second period, but the Oilers forced overtime with a furious comeback.
Elsewhere, it was: Senators 5, Coyotes 2.
