Capitals douse Flames for 4th straight win
THE Washington Capitals won their fourth game in a row and moved into second place in the Southeast division with a 3-1 victory over the road-weary Calgary Flames on Tuesday.
Washington's Alex Ovechkin maintained his hot streak with a goal and an assist while netminder Tomas Vokoun stopped 18 shots to raise his career record against the Flames to 14-4-3-1.
The victory pushed the Capitals past idle Winnipeg in the division and within three points of front-running Florida.
"We just want to win every game," said Ovechkin, who notched his 17th goal of the season just 71 seconds into the first period to extend his point streak to seven games.
"This is too good of a group to be in the middle (of the standings). We just want to be in the playoffs."
Washington moved into a tie with New Jersey for the final playoff spots in the Eastern Conference.
