Flyers beat Caps in OT

ANDREJ Meszaros scored in overtime on Tuesday to give the red-hot Philadelphia Flyers a 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals and a share of first place in the NHL.

The Flyers squandered a 2-0 lead by allowing third-period goals to Mike Knuble and Alex Ovechkin, but Meszaros delivered an unassisted tally at 1:07 into overtime to give Philadelphia its third straight win and seventh in eight games.

"I wanted to shoot, so I yelled at (Matt Carle) to pass it to me," Meszaros said. "I was just trying to hit the net."

Jeff Carter and Claude Giroux netted goals in the first and second periods respectively and the Flyers (30-11-5) tied the Western Conference-leading Vancouver Canucks.

In other games, it was: Penguins 4, Red Wings 1; Bruins 3, Hurricanes 2; Sabres 2, Canadiens 1 (OT); Ducks 2, Senators 1 (OT), Lightning 3, Blue Jackets 2 (shootout); Blues 2, Kings 1; Avalanche 4, Canucks 3 (OT); and Predators 5, Coyotes 2.
