Injury-hit Rangers edge champions Blackhawks
ERIK Christensen's wrist shot at 6:36 in the third period gave the New York Rangers a 3-2 victory over the Stanley Cup champions Chicago Blackhawks on Monday.
Christensen's goal for the injury-hit Rangers, without key players Chris Drury, Vinny Prospal and Marian Gaborik, came just 28 seconds after Patrick Kane had pulled the Blackhawks level at 2-2.
"It was huge," Rangers center Brandon Dubinsky said. "For (Christensen) to come back and bury one right away, it felt like we didn't miss a beat."
Dubinsky scored twice on the night, his seventh and eighth of the season, as the Rangers (6-4-1) won their second consecutive game.
Elsewhere in the National Hockey League, it was: Flyers 3, Hurricanes 2; and Canucks 3, Devils 0.
In New York, Chicago (7-6-1) winger Tomas Kopecky had opened the scoring at 17:13 in the first period before Dubinsky's goals at the end of the first and beginning of the third period gave the Rangers the lead.
Ryan Callahan assisted on both Dubinsky goals to extend his points streak to seven games and pull New York within two points of the Philadelphia Flyers at the top of the Atlantic Division.
"A big part of this game is playing with some confidence and that's what I'm doing right now," Callahan said.
"We just seem to be able to find each other. We know where we're going and we've played together now for a bunch of games and we're getting used to each other and things are clicking."
Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist made 33 saves to aid in the victory.
In Philadelphia, Scott Hartnell scored two goals and Claude Giroux one as Philadelphia beat Carolina.
Playing without center Danny Briere, who began a three-game suspension for a crosscheck on the Islanders' Frans Nielson on Saturday, the Flyers won their fourth straight after losing four of five. The Hurricanes have lost two of three.
In Vancouver, British Columbia, Raffi Torres and Ryan Kesler staked Vancouver to a two-goal lead, and Roberto Luongo made 30 saves in Vancouver's victory over New Jersey.
Henrik Sedin rounded out the scoring on a penalty shot with 6:17 left as the Canucks, playing their first game in six days, won their third straight and improved to 5-0-1 on home ice.
Martin Brodeur finished with 20 saves for the Devils, who are off to their worst start in 27 years at 3-9-1.
