Kings throttle the Canadiens

Los Angeles got goals from six players in a surprising 6-0 road victory over Montreal on Tuesday, giving the Kings a fourth-straight win as the Canadiens lost ground in the fight for top spot in the Atlantic Division.

Elsewhere, Patrick Sharp led Chicago to a 6-2 win over Dallas, Phoenix beat Colorado 3-1 to move within a point of the Avalanche, and St Louis edged Winnipeg 2-1.

Los Angeles rookie goalie Martin Jones made 31 saves for his second shutout in as many games, while the Kings’ goals came from Jordan Nolan, Anze Kopitar, Alec Martinez, Tyler Toffoli, Jake Muzzin and Justin Williams.

The Canadiens pulled goaltender Carey Price as they lost in regulation for the first time in 11 games.

Chicago’s Patrick Sharp scored twice to extend his domination of Dallas and help the Blackhawks cruise.

Washington’s Alex Ovechkin scored four goals, including the equalizer with 32.4 seconds left in regulation, as the Capitals rallied to beat Tampa Bay 6-5 in a shootout.

Ovechkin increased his NHL-leading total to 26 goals with his big night.

Nicklas Backstrom had a goal and four assists for the Capitals.

Boston’s Reilly Smith scored the tiebreaking goal at 15:27 of the third period as the Bruins edged Calgary 2-1.

New York’s Kyle Okposo scored the tying goal with 1:37 left in regulation and got the game-winner in the fourth round of a shootout to give the Islanders a 3-2 win at San Jose, ending a run of 10-straight losses to the Sharks.

In other games, it was: Panthers 3, Red Wings 2 (SO); Predators 4, Rangers 1; Blue Jackets 5, Devils 4; Oilers 5, Hurricanes 4 (OT); and Sabres 2, Senators 1 (SO).
