Panthers run down Ducks

Brad Boyes scored the tiebreaking goal early in the third period as the Florida Panthers ended a nine-game losing streak on Tuesday with a 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.

Tim Thomas stopped 32 shots, and Scottie Upshall and Shawn Matthias also scored for the Panthers, who earned their first win under new coach Peter Horachek and end Anaheim’s five-game winning streak.

Buffalo’s Cody Hodgson scored two goals and Ryan Miller made 43 saves as the Sabres beat the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 in a shootout to avoid matching the worst home start in NHL history.

Matt Moulson and Tyler Ennis scored in the shootout for the Sabres and Miller stopped both Los Angeles shooters.

Buffalo was winless in its first nine home games, one short of the NHL record set by Pittsburgh in 1983-84.

Justin Williams and Dwight King scored in regulation for the Kings.

In Calgary, Brad Stuart scored 1:13 into overtime to propel the San Jose Sharks to a 3-2 victory over the Flames and break a five-game winless streak. The Phoenix Coyotes edged the St. Louis Blues 3-2 after Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored 56 seconds into overtime.
