Perry nets OT winner as Ducks set for playoff
A RED-HOT Corey Perry scored his second successive game-winning goal to help the Anaheim Ducks beat the Calgary Flames 5-4 in overtime on Sunday, a victory which lifted the Ducks into playoff position.
The Ducks moved into a tie with the Dallas Stars for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference thanks to two goals from Perry, who also scored Anaheim's winner in their 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.
"You dream of these kinds of games - playoff atmosphere type games," Perry told reporters. "It doesn't (get any better than this)."
Teemu Selanne had forced the extra session for the Ducks (40-27-5) on a power-play score with 2:01 remaining in regulation, before Perry notched his 39th goal of the season at 2:38 into OT.
Perry has tallied eight goals in his last six games as Anaheim has won three straight.
"He's an unbelievable hockey player having an MVP year," said Selanne, of his teammate. "He's hungry every game. It's great to see when young guys can do that."
Calgary (37-27-10) had brilliantly erased a 0-3 first-period deficit and taken a 4-3 advantage on Jarome Iginla's 33rd goal of the season before Selanne tied it up.
The Flames have lost 13 consecutive times in Anaheim, dating back to 2004, and remain one point out of the playoffs.
In another NHL game, Rangers rallied to beat Penguins 5-2. Also, it was: Canadiens 8, Wild 1; Predators 4, Sabres 3. OT; Devils 3, Blue Jackets 0 and Blackhawks 2, Coyotes 1.
