Pittsburgh Gets Ponikarovsky

THE Pittsburgh Penguins acquired forward Alex Ponikarovsky in a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the NHL reported on its Website on Tuesday.

The Penguins sent defenseman Martin Skoula and minor-league forward Luca Caputi to Toronto in exchange for the 29-year-old.

Ponikarovsky has 19 goals and 44 points in 61 games this season. At 6ft-4in he is a big target and is set to become a free agent in the offseason.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Blackhawks have added defenseman Nick?Boynton from the Anaheim Ducks.

The Hawks will send future considerations to the Ducks.

The 31-year old Boynton has recorded seven points, 59 penalty minutes, and a +1 plus/minus rating in 42 games with Anaheim this season.

In other moves on Tuesday, the Ottawa Senators acquired defenseman Andy Sutton from the New York Islanders and the Atlanta Thrashers signed 48-year-old defenseman Chris Chelios.

Sutton, 34, had four goals and 12 points for the Islanders, who received a 2010 second round draft pick.

Chelios will remain with the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves if he clears waivers.
