Pouliot scores as Habs hold on to beat Rangers
BENOIT Pouliot scored the go-ahead goal in the third period and the Montreal Canadiens held on to beat the New York 2-1 on Tuesday and snap the Rangers' three-game win streak.
Montreal's Jaroslav Spacek tied the game 1-1 with about a minute left in the second period and Pouliot added the winner 6:03 into the third with a shot from low in the left circle that eluded Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist.
"I should have had it," Lundqvist said after the game. "He took a real good shot, but it doesn't matter from that angle. I should keep my chest up a little more - it probably would have hit my shoulder."
In other games, it was: Bruins 6, Senators 0; Canucks 4, Islanders 3 (in shootout); Hurricanes 6, Flames 5 (SO); Coyotes 4, Blue Jackets 3; Flyers 5, Sabres 2; Panthers 4, Capitals 3 (OT); Maple Leafs 4, Sharks 2; and Predators 5, Wild 1.
Meanwhile, the NHL announced the leagues all-stars.
The Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks and the Vancouver Canucks, both had multiple players added to the NHL All-Star game.
In all, 36 players along with 12 rookies, who will participate only in the skills competition during All-Star weekend, were chosen by the league's ice hockey operations department.
Chicago was already well represented for the All-Star festivities later this month in Raleigh, North Carolina, as captain Jonathan Toews and defenseman Duncan Keith were among six players voted into the game in fan balloting. They were joined on Tuesday by forwards Patrick Kane and Patrick Sharp.
