Purcell-led Lightning blaze past Coyotes

TEDDY Purcell scored a hat-trick as the Tampa Bay Lightning blazed out of a slump with an 8-3 rout of Phoenix on Wednesday, snapping the Coyotes' eight-game win streak.
Martin St. Louis scored twice and the NHL's leading goal grabber Steven Stamkos notched his 41st of the season as the Lightning exploded to a 7-0 lead en route to ending their three-game losing streak.
"That was pretty cool," Purcell told reporters after notching the first hat-trick of his career. "That was my first hat-trick since street hockey when I was 10 or 12 years old probably. To get a hat-trick and then two points, that's a pretty special night."
Tampa Bay (35-18-7) matched a season-high with its eight goals, its strong offensive showing helping it widen its lead in the Southeast division to three points over Washington.
In a complete effort for the home side, Stamkos ended a five-game goal drought while St. Louis added his 50th assist of the season to record his fifth straight campaign of at least 20 goals and 50 assists.
Vincent Lecavalier and Adam Hall also netted for the Lightning. Phoenix goaltender Jason Labarbera struggled in place of regular starter Ilya Bryzgalov, who has won eight consecutive starts including two shutouts. Labarbera allowed all eight goals.
"It's embarrassing, just flat embarrassing," said Coyotes captain Shane Doan. "I think as a player you feel the worst for a guy like Jason LaBarbera who does nothing but compete for us every single night and does everything he can for us every single day at practice."
Martin Hanzal, Kyle Turris and David Schlemko scored for the Coyotes (33-20-9) who fell out of first in the Pacific Division and are now one point behind the San Jose Sharks.
