Di Resta boosts F1 chances with DTM title

SCOTLAND'S Paul di Resta boosted his credentials as a future Formula One driver by winning the German Touring Car (DTM) championship yesterday.

The Force India test and reserve driver, who has taken part in Friday practice sessions at grand prix weekends this year, took the crown for Mercedes in the season-ending street race in Shanghai.

Britain's Gary Paffett, a McLaren test driver, won the race in Pudong New Area with di Resta second.

Di Resta, a cousin of double Indy 500 winner Dario Franchitti, is hoping to secure a Formula One race seat with Force India next season.

China's Cheng Congfu finished 15th in his Mercedes and failed to score any points in his debut season.

"I'm getting myself prepared this year and really look forward to the next season," Cheng said.
