F1 leader Rosberg inks new Mercedes deal
FORMULA One championship leader Nico Rosberg has been rewarded by Mercedes for his strong start to the season with a new contract.
The 29-year-old German, who has been driving for Mercedes since 2010, has signed a “multi-year” deal, Mercedes said yesterday. Rosberg heads into Sunday’s German Grand Prix with a four-point lead over Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton in the drivers’ championship. Half of Rosberg’s six victories with Mercedes have come this season. “It has been a difficult road to get to where we are now — but everybody kept believing and, thanks to the fantastic support from Mercedes-Benz, we are now leading the way in F1,” Rosberg said in a statement. “There has been big progress during the past year, building up our structure, management and capability for the future.”
Team chief Toto Wolff was delighted with Rosberg’s progress. “His speed, commitment and focus have all helped to give clear direction and to drive the team forward,” he said.
