F1 teams push for tire supply decision
ONE of the main items of discussion in the F1 paddock at this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix was the tire-supply situation for 2011.
Bridgestone, the sole tire supplier to all teams, is pulling out of the sport at the end of the current season and, as yet, no replacement has been announced.
Michelin is eager to return but its entry was reportedly conditional on the adoption of much wider tires, and being able to charge teams for supply.
Some of the smaller independent teams were keen for a more affordable solution to be found, and talks were being held with F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone.
A cheaper, non-branded tire was under discussion, with teams eager for the issue to be resolved quickly so preparations can begin for their 2011 car designs.
