Ferrari extends Massa's contract through 2013
FERRARI has extended Felipe Massa's contract for one more season with the Formula One team.
The Italian squad made the announcement yesterday, saying it has renewed the Brazilian's deal "to the end of the 2013 race season."
The move comes two days after Massa's fourth-place finish in the Korean Grand Prix. Massa also finished fourth in the Italian GP last month, then took second in the Japanese GP eight days ago for his first podium result in nearly two years.
Still, Massa hasn't won a race since a life-threatening accident at the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2009. He is ninth in the drivers' standings. His previous deal was due to expire at the end of this season.
Lead Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso is currently in a tight championship battle with Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel, who hasn't hid his desire to drive for Ferrari one day.
Meanwhile, Force India's German Formula One driver Nico Hulkenberg will drive for Sauber next season, it was reported on Monday.
The 25-year-old, who started his F1 career with Williams in 2010, has according to Auto, Motor und Sport magazine already signed a contract with the Swiss team replacing McLaren-bound Sergio Perez.
However his agent Timo Gans would not confirm the news.
"I can neither confirm or deny the news," he said.
"The drivers contracts are normally announced by the teams themselves, so therefore I don't want to pre-empt any such announcement."
The news came the day after the South Korean Grand Prix where Hulkenberg finished sixth to leave him 12th in the drivers standings on 45 points.
In Japan this month, Hulkenberg dismissed reports that he had been approached to replace Felipe Massa at Ferrari in 2013.
