Massa released from hospital in Brazil

FERRARI driver Felipe Massa left his Brazilian hospital Tuesday and was allowed to return to his home for the first time since a life-threatening crash in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix 10 days ago.
After spending a night at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, and undergoing a series of exams, doctors allowed Massa to continue his recovery process at home with his relatives.
Doctors said they reevaluated the driver's condition and concluded there was no need to keep the 28-year-old Brazilian driver in the hospital.
Massa arrived in Brazil on Monday after nine days at the AEK military hospital in Budapest, where he underwent surgery on multiple skull fractures sustained when he was hit in the helmet by a loose part from another car and crashed into a protective tire barrier in qualifying for the Hungarian GP.
"There is no need for more surgeries," family doctor Dino Altmann told a media conference. "What he needs now is rest."
Altmann said Massa will go through periodic reevaluations and further exams in the near future, but did not make any predictions on when the driver may return to racing.
"We can't say when he will be able to race again," Altmann said. "It's too early to talk about that. It's going to depend on the reevaluations. We have to make sure there is no risk. I'm sure he will follow our recommendations so he can return as soon as possible."
During his recovery, Massa will be replaced at Ferrari by seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, who is coming out of retirement to race.
The next race is the European Grand Prix in Valencia, Spain, on Aug. 23.
