Scalpers nabbed

More than 10 scalpers were caught on the weekend during the Chinese Grand Prix for selling fake passes and tickets, Shanghai police said last night.

The weekend saw the ninth edition of the Formula One GP and the scalpers made some innovation by selling fake or unauthorized car passes, which are often hard to get, while also sticking to the tried and tested fake tickets, Jiading District police found.

Scalpers were seen yesterday standing on roads outside the Shanghai Audi International Circuit, waving car passes in a bid to woo fans who drove to watch the annual race.

Police said around 100 passes and tickets were confiscated from the scalpers.

Meanwhile, more than 185,000 people went to the Shanghai circuit from Friday to yesterday for the exhilarating event, with a 15 percent increase in ticket sales over last year, local organizer Juss Event revealed.

In excess of 600 million people in 150 countries and regions watched yesterday's race through live broadcast.
