Shanghai to host F1 race for 7 more years
THE Formula One tournament has been confirmed to stay in Shanghai for another seven years, the Shanghai Sports Bureau announced today.
Shanghai Juss Event Management Co, local organizer, and London-based Formula One Management Ltd, have agreed to extend their contract to 2017, but the value of the renewed contract was not disclosed.
Zhao Wen, vice mayor of Shanghai, said the value of the renewed contract was lower than the previous one but refused to be specific.
Zhao said the F1 China Grand Prix in the past seven years had been a success and she expected the influence of this annual sports event would grow bigger in the next few years through more efforts.
Meanwhile, the Shanghai Circuit station of Metro Line 11, which was closed during last year's race, will be open during this year's event in April. The circuit will also open its 5,900 parking spots to spectators this year, the bureau said.
