Statue For Champions

JENSON Button is likely to get his own sculpture put up at the Shanghai International Circuit after winning the Chinese Grand Prix yesterday, according to the local operator Juss Event.

The company unveiled a statue masterpiece at the circuit on Saturday, with busts of the prior six champions in Shanghai - Rubens Barrichello, Fernando Alonso, Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel - honoring their racing accomplishments in China.

After his immaculate win in the rain yesterday, Button will be the seventh driver to have his own statue at the Shanghai circuit.

The figures of the six champion drivers are set on a chess board, symbolizing the intensive competition in Formula One.

Beside the racers, a statue of Bernie Ecclestone, the commercial supremo of the Formula One, stands watch on the six champions, while overseeing the event.

"I'm very, very impressed," Ecclestone said at the unveiling ceremony, praising the Shanghai circuit as simply "marvelous."
