Lorenzo claims French GP
JORGE Lorenzo of Spain beat defending world champion Valentino Rossi of Italy yesterday to win the French Grand Prix for the second straight year and extend his overall lead in the MotoGP category.
Rossi was on pole but Lorenzo was nearly six seconds clear of his Yamaha teammate when he completed the 28-lap circuit in Le Mans in a little under 45 minutes.
Italian racer Andrea Dovizioso was third on a Honda.
Rossi won the season-opening GP in Qatar, but Lorenzo came first in the Spanish GP in Jerez three weeks ago. Lorenzo has 70 points to Rossi's 61, while Dovizioso climbed to third on 42 points.
In the Moto2 race, championship leader Toni Elias of Spain claimed victory ahead of countryman Julian Simon, with Italy's Simone Corsi finishing in third place.
Spanish riders swept the podium in the 125cc, with Pol Espargaro winning ahead of Nicolas Terol, and Marc Marquez taking third.
