Rain scuppers China Rally
THE Rally of China scheduled for September 9-11 has been cancelled as roads are too badly damaged by rains to be repaired in time, motor racing governing body FIA said yesterday.
The race had been due to take place at Huairou, 70 kilometers from Beijing, and would have been a first such event in China since 1999. Local authorities said that diluvian rainfalls last month had wrought massive damage to local roads and that it would have been impossible to repair them in time. The rally will not be replaced, leaving a five-week gap between this weekend’s Rally of Germany and the next edition in the mountains of Corsica and cutting the program to 13 rather than 14 rallies. The Rally of China is, however, scheduled to go ahead the following two years in 2017 and 2018.
