Rossi loses CAS case, to start last

The Court of Arbitration for Sport yesterday dismissed an appeal by Italy鈥檚 Valentino Rossi, former MotoGP world champion, to set aside his punishment over the 鈥楳arquez-kick鈥 incident.
During the October 25 Malaysia Grand Prix, race officials found that Yamaha鈥檚 Rossi deliberately ran wide, resulting in contact with Honda鈥檚 Marc Marquez, who fell off his bike.
The championship leader appealed a three-point penalty that forced him to start from the back of the grid in Sunday鈥檚 race in Valencia.
He now faces an uphill task to protect a slender seven-point lead over Spanish Yamaha teammate Jorge Lorenzo, as they come to the final race of the season, with defending champion Marquez out of the running.
鈥淭he Court of Arbitration for Sport has dismissed Valentino Rossi鈥檚 request to stay the execution of the decision issued by the (international motorcycle federation) on 25 October 2015,鈥 a decision from the Lausanne-based tribunal said.
The Italian motorcycling legend鈥檚 actions have sparked outrage in Marquez鈥檚 home country of Spain. But Rossi denies kicking Marquez, claiming instead that he is the victim of a Spanish plot.
Honda has insisted that Rossi鈥檚 kick was deliberate, claiming their technical data proves Rossi kicked Marquez鈥檚 machine.
