Rossi snatches pole for Czech MotoGP
WORLD champion Valentino Rossi edged his Spanish teammate Jorge Lorenzo yesterday to take pole position for the Czech MotoGP.
The Italian Yamaha rider covered the 5.403-kilometer Brno circuit in 1 minute 56.145 seconds to improve the previous fastest lap of 1:56.191 he set in qualifying in 2006 and claim pole for today's race despite a crash on one of his final qualifying laps. Lorenzo clocked 1:56.195 seconds while Spain's Dani Pedrosa rounded out the front row on his Honda. Rossi, who won in Brno last year, leads the MotoGP championship standings with 187 points, followed by Lorenzo with 162. Australian Casey Stoner is third on 150. Ducati's Stoner, the 2007 overall champion, isn't racing in Brno as he is recovering from an illness.
