Stoner grabs pole

WORLD championship leader Casey Stoner of Australia took pole position for the German MotoGP after edging out last year's winner Dani Pedrosa of Spain in qualifying yesterday. Stoner's fastest lap on his Honda around the Sachsenring circuit was one minute, 21.681 seconds, 0.252 seconds ahead of teammate Pedrosa. Jorge Lorenzo of Spain completed the front row on the grid for today's race on his Yamaha. Italian Marco Simoncelli, who had been quickest in practice, qualified fourth on his Honda followed by Yamaha's American Ben Spies and Honda's Italian Andrea Divizioso.
