Stoner takes pole for British MotoGP

AUSTRALIA'S Casey Stoner edged out Honda teammate Marco Simoncelli of Italy to qualify in pole position for MotoGP in today's British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Stoner, who is second in the world championship standings behind Jorge Lorenzo of Spain, posted a quickest time of 2 minutes, 02.020 seconds yesterday to claim his fourth pole of the season. Simoncelli pipped Lorenzo, riding a Yamaha, to second place while Ben Spies of the United States was fourth. Britain's Cal Crutchlow broke his collarbone after falling onto his left shoulder in a crash on the course's second corner, just five minutes into qualifying. Stoner, bidding to clinch a fourth win this season, is seven points behind Lorenzo in the standings.
