Beijing hands in bid
THE two cities left in the depleted field for the 2022 Winter Games have submitted their bid files to the International Olympic Committee.
Bid leaders from Beijing and Almaty, Kazakhstan, handed over their documents yesterday at IOC headquarters in Lausanne, a day ahead of the deadline.
Beijing is considered the favorite in a race that began with six candidates but saw withdrawals of Stockholm, Krakow, in Poland Lviv in Ukraine and Oslo.
The host city will be selected by the full IOC on July 31 in Malaysia.
