Britain wins 1st London Olympics gold
HELEN Glover and Heather Stanning won the women's pair rowing gold for Britain at the London Olympic Games at the Eton Dorney Lake today.
This is the first gold medal for the host at the Games as the british duo finished the race in 7 minutes and 27.13 seconds. They set an Olympic best time in qualifying for the final.
Australia's Kate Hornsey and Sarah Tait won the silver medal in 7'29"86. The bronze medal went to New Zealand's world champions Juliette Haighand Rebecca Scown in 7'30"19.
