China switches women’s track lineup
China is swapping out skaters in the women's 1,000-meter short track at the Olympics with Li Jianrou replacing Zhou Yang for today’s heats. Li won the 500 in Sochi, while Zhou won the 1,500.
Chinese coach Li Yan said the change was being made to help the team. Li said Zhou is still expected to join China's entry for the women's 3,000 final today. Zhou, the world record holder in the 1,500, is considered more of a distance specialist and didn’t compete in the 500. Joining Li in the 1,000 heats will be Fan Kexin and Liu Qiuhong. Fan is a two-time world champion in the 500, while Liu won the 500 B final in Sochi to finish fourth overall.
