Final was an absolute classic, coaches agree
THE coaches agreed, the Canada-US ice hockey final was a gold medal game for the ages.
Canada won their most coveted gold of a record 14 claimed during the Vancouver Games with a 3-2 win on Sidney Crosby's goal seven minutes 40 seconds into overtime after American Zach Parise tied the game with 24 seconds left in regulation.
"I'd like to congratulate Canada," US coach Ron Wilson told reporters. "I thought they played a great game, and I thought we played an equally great game.
"I think both teams are winners, and so was hockey in general."
Canada coach Mike Babcock agreed.
"There is hardly anything between these teams," he said. "Their team played hard. I thought they really moved the puck, they competed good and their goalie (Ryan Miller) was really fantastic."
Wilson thought his team deserved better than silver.
"It's just a shame that both teams shouldn't receive the gold medal today," he said.
Babcock, of course, was not ready to split the gold with the Americans.
"It's just an unbelievable feeling to have the city of Vancouver and the country behind you," he said.
"To be Olympic champion and share that with your family and all of Canada is fantastic."
