Former Olympian fights off attacker

DAWN Fraser, who won swimming gold medals at three Olympics for Australia, fought off and helped capture a man who tried to rob her home near Brisbane.

Fraser, 71, said yesterday the man grabbed her but she fought back. "This guy came out of the gate and grabbed me and I grabbed him by the ear and I kicked him in the groin," she told several Australian television stations. She said a male friend made the man lie on his stomach until police arrived on Sunday. Fraser won eight Olympic medals, including four golds. She held the 100-meter freestyle world record from 1956 to 1972.
