Georgian luger's dad rejects report
THE father of the Georgian luger killed during practice before the Vancouver Winter Olympics has angrily dismissed a coroner's report saying lack of experience played a role in his death.
David Kumaritashvili said yesterday if his son, Nodar Kumaritashvili, lacked expertise, he wouldn't have made it to the Olympics. He added that no athlete's mistake should lead to death. The luger died when he lost control of his sled at nearly 145 kph, flew off the course and slammed into a steel pole. Coroner Tom Pawlowski said in a report released on Monday that Kumaritashvili's "relative lack of experience" set a backdrop for the incident. Georgia Sports Minister Georgy Natsvlishvili also rejected the findings and blamed the organizers, saying the track was unsafe.
