MacLennan denies Chinese duo

ROSANNAGH MacLennan soared to Canada's first Olympic gold in London yesterday, capturing the women's trampoline title when defending champion He Wenna of China wobbled during her final routine.

MacLennan scored 57.305 to leap past China's Huang Shanshan, who took silver with a 56.730 and He Wenna, also of China, who claimed bronze.

The 23-year-old MacLennan, who came seventh in Beijing, started fifth in the finals round, but a less-than-stellar performance from Belarus' Tatsiana Piatrenia put her into the medals.

China's Huang could not put together a strong enough performance to beat MacLennan and then fellow Chinese He slipped at the end of a spectacular performance, tumbling to third. "I did quite good today besides that mistake," said He, who did not wear her medal afterward. "It's a regret not to see the Chinese flag raised."

Dong Dong won the men's gold for China on Friday.
