Olympic flame reaches London

THE Olympic flame arrived in London yesterday following a 63-day trip around the British Isles.

The final leg of the journey said the flame made a helicopter visit from the town of Guildford to the historic Tower of London, where a member of the Royal Marines (Martin Williams) abseiled down into the Tower, where it was taken by Athens 1,500m and 800m double gold medal winner, Kelly Holmes.

Earlier in the day a 17-year-old was arrested as he had tried to disrupt the procession during its 105-mile progress of the day. He had tried to take the flame from Polish torchbearer Anna Skora, but was stopped by police before he was able to do so.

The flame will now visit every London's borough before finally arriving at the Olympic Stadium for the opening ceremony on July 27.

It arrived in the UK at Lands End on May 19 and its visit to the islands saw it traveled to within an hour's journey of 95 percent of the population of the UK.
