All Blacks training
NEW Zealand's All Blacks will be based in the quake-damaged city of Christchurch for five days during the Rugby World Cup in September. The New Zealand Rugby Union says the team will fly to Christchurch on September 17, the day after its match against Japan in Hamilton, and return to Auckland five days later to prepare for its match against France at Eden Park. Team manager Darren Shand says it is "fantastic" the All Blacks have been able to arrange an alternative schedule with World Cup organizers to allow them to spend time in Christchurch, which was hit by a 6.3 magnitude quake on February 22. Five pool matches and two quarterfinals have been moved from the South Island city because of damage caused by the earthquake, which left at least 166 people dead.
