Beale in trouble again, Lions hopes dim

KURTLEY Beale has been suspended again by the Melbourne Rebels just one match after returning from a month-long ban, a move that will dent his chances of playing for Australia against the British and Irish Lions.

The Rebels said in a statement yesterday that Beale, 24, had been stood down from tomorrow's Super 15 match against the Blues in Auckland because he had "breached behavioral guidelines". He was sidelined for a month after an alcohol-fueled altercation with Rebels teammates during a trip to South Africa and, after a starring cameo in a weekend loss to the Waikato Chiefs, had been expected to return at fullback against Auckland.

No official reason was given for the ban, although Australian Associated Press reported that Beale had admitted to team officials that he drank alcohol with some teammates last Saturday.

Beale, who had still hoped to play for Australia against the Lions in three tests in June and July, had missed the previous six Super matches.
