England to host 2015 rugby worlds
ENGLAND will host the Rugby World Cup in 2015 and Japan will run the tournament in 2019, the International Rugby Board announced yesterday.
Board chairman Bernard Lapasset said 16 of the 26 IRB council members voted in favor of the English and Japanese bids during afternoon deliberations at a Dublin conference center. England last staged a Rugby World Cup in 1991, while Japan will play host for the first time. Four years ago, Japan was the front-runner to host the 2011 World Cup but lost unexpectedly to New Zealand. England Rugby Union chairman Martyn Thomas called the decision "a relief, and also great joy for England."
