THE Otago Highlanders opened the new era of Super rugby yesterday with a scrappy 14-9 upset victory over the Wellington Hurricanes, who played the last 30 minutes with 14 men after All Black back Ma'a Nonu was sent off. In Melbourne, Kurtley Beale and Drew Mitchell scored two tries each as the New South Wales Waratahs gave a rough welcome to the Melbourne Rebels, beating the new Super 15 rugby side 43-0.
