Korea wins in Shanghai

SOUTH Korea won the men's title at the Shanghai Sevens, the first event of the HSBC Asian Seven Series, beating China's Hong Kong 22-17 with a try in sudden death extra-time yesterday.

Hong Kong led 17-0 early in the second half with tries from Tom McQueen, Keith Robertson and Rowan Varty and a Robertson conversion but Korea drew level with two tries and a converted try in the final minute.

It was Korea's third successive win in the Shanghai Sevens, but the first at Yuanshen Stadium in Pudong New Area, which hosted the tournament for the first time this year.

The women's title was won by China, which beat Kazakhstan 19-10, with China's men finishing fifth after seeing off Malaysia 31-7.
