NZ, Samoa into HK Sevens quarterfinals
SEVENS rugby heavyweights New Zealand and Fiji continued to plow through their pools while Samoa had to shake off sluggish starts twice to also reach the quarterfinals at the Hong Kong Sevens yesterday.
South Africa, England and Australia also won their pools, while the United States and Kenya joined them in the last eight as the two best pool runners-up. World series leader New Zealand thrashed France 36-0 and Scotland 22-5 while Fiji, a Hong Kong finalist in four of the previous five years and the winner of its record 12th title a year ago, dominated Portugal 45-7 and the United States 38-12. However, Samoa, only two points behind New Zealand in the series standings, struggled to beat Russia 24-12 and Argentina 21-14.
