Rugby player dies after collapsing

RUGBY league player Leon Walker died on Sunday after collapsing during a match, his team said.

The 21-year-old Walker, an Englishman who was in his first season with the Wakefield Wildcats, was playing in a reserve match against the Celtic Crusaders in Maesteg, Wales. The player went awkwardly into a tackle, got to his feet and played the ball before collapsing. Attempts were made on the field to revive him and the match was abandoned after 63 minutes. Walker was airlifted to a hospital in nearby Swansea, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Cook Islands international Adam Watene collapsed and died of a heart attack during a weight training session in October at the age of 31.
