Springboks flight forced to return
THE South African Rugby Union said the Springboks Tri-Nations squad was to travel to Australia on a replacement plane after their initial flight was aborted because of engine failure.
SARU said the team was scheduled to leave Johannesburg on the new plane later yesterday. It will arrive in Sydney 31 hours later than planned after Friday's flight was forced to turn back 50 minutes after takeoff when an engine overheated and was shut down by pilots. The Qantas Boeing 747 landed safely back at Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport with all 355 passengers, including the 28 Springboks, unharmed.
