Chinese female skaters sizzle
OLYMPIC champion Wang Meng and Zhou Yang won two golds for China at the ISU short track speed skating World Cup yesterday.
Wang, the 500-meter winner at the 2006 Turin Olympics, dominated the women's final in 43.430 seconds in Beijing. Jessica Gregg of Canada was second. The bronze went to another Canadian Marianne St-Gelais. Zhou, 18, finished first in the 1,500. Zhou, who set a world record of two minutes 16.729 seconds in Salt Lake City this year, hit the finish line in 2:28.600. Lee Eun-byul of South Korea took silver ahead of Katherine Reutter of the United States. In the men's 1,500, South Koreans filled the top three placings. Sung Si-bak took the race in 2:25.386, finishing ahead of Lee Ho-suk and Lee Jung-su.
